Summer and Fall Events to Check Out in South Lake Tahoe

Tahoe truly embraces the summertime and for good reason. The weather is perfect with sunny days that are not too hot and the area is beautiful. For these reasons, people come here to enjoy hiking, biking, swimming, kayaking, and simply taking in nature.

But when you need a quick break from all of the exploring you have planned while in Tahoe, there is a variety of festivals, markets, events, and more that you can go to.

South Lake Tahoe Events to Check Out This August

Many of these great events occur regularly, often weekly, throughout the summer and into the early fall, meaning there is almost always something to do while you are visiting. Depending on your interests, some favorites include:

  • Music in the Park - The nearby town of Meyers hosts music in the park every other Friday at Paradise Park. Concerts go from 5pm to 8pm and include live music and food available for purchase. They are free to attend and go until the beginning of September.

  • Heavenly Village Summer Concert Series - The shops at Heavenly Village hold weekly concerts every Friday and Saturday featuring a variety of music. They occur on the stage in Heavenly Village and run from about 6pm to 9pm. Concerts are free to attend and run until Labor Day.

  • Live at Lakeview Summer Music Series - At the Lakeview Commons on El Dorado Beach, you can attend free concerts every Thursday from 4:30pm to 8:30pm. You will also get to see art and shop from local merchants and food vendors while enjoying a concert right on the lake. The last concert is on August 25 and the venue offers a biking valet for those who will be arriving by bike.

  • UC Davis Tahoe Science Lecture Series - If your tastes tend towards the intellectual, UC Davis hosts a lecture series throughout the summer at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences. Upcoming lectures include a study on how microclimates affect wine varietals and wine and cheese pairs. Lectures include wine samples.

  • El Dorado County Farmers Market - El Dorado County puts on a certified farmers market every Tuesday from 8am to 1pm in the American Legion parking lot. This includes several great local growers and food vendors. Farmers markets run until October.

  • Meyers Mountain Farmers Market - For another event in the nearby town of Meyers, you can head to the certified farmers market every Wednesday between 3pm and 7:30pm. In addition to food and produce, this market also has live music, local vendors, and a wealth of other activities.

There are also a few individual events that you should head to, such as the Concours de Elegance Wooden Boat Show in mid-August or the Gatsby Party at the Tallac Historic Site. Because many of these events can get busy but are often conveniently located to downtown South Lake Tahoe, biking is often one of the best ways to get to concerts, farmers markets, and anywhere else you want to go in Tahoe so that you can beat traffic and avoid paying for parking.
